GREENFIELD – Homan “Herb” S. Coder, Jr., age 78, of Greenfield, died Saturday, April 20, 2013 at Hancock Regional Hospice. Born on July 11, 1934 in DuBois, PA, he was the son of Homan and Dagmar (Johnson) Coder. He graduated from DuBois High School and received his Associates degree from Lawrence Institute of Technology in Michigan. Herb served as a Spec Sergeant in the United States Army in 1958-1963. He married Marie L. (Polasek) Coder in 1959 in Michigan. Herb worked for GM for 30 years and retired as a Plant Superintendent in 1991. He was a member of the Greenfield American Legion. Surviving him are his wife, Marie Coder of Greenfield; daughter, Sally (Scott) Brown of Greenfield; son, David Coder of Michigan; five grandchildren, Jeremy Coder, Nicole (Kenny) Gooch, Shane Sweeting, Ashley Sweeting and Charly Brown; and four great-grandchildren, Ella, Asher, Ezekiel, and Eden Gooch. Preceding him in death were his parents; and four sisters. Memorial Service will be on Tuesday, April 23, at 7:00 p.m. with visitation starting at 4:00 p.m. at Erlewein Mortuary in Greenfield. Pastor Danny Curry will be officiating. Entombment will be at the Indiana Veterans Memorial Cemetery with military rites.
