Julia “Judy” Ann Brown

GREENFIELD – Julia Ann “Judy” (Lester) Brown, age 80, of Greenfield, passed away Monday, December 16, 2013. She was born on May 2, 1933 in Lamasco, Kentucky, the daughter of James Ingram and Myrtle (Johnson) Lester. In 1951, she graduated from Lyon County High School in Kuttawa, Kentucky. Mrs. Brown graduated from the University of Kentucky. Judy married Herbert Brown in Lamasco, Kentucky on August 28 1955. She was employed by the Greenfield Banking Company in Greenfield for 27 years before retiring as Vice President of Bank Marketing in 1997. Judy was a member of Greenfield Christian Church. Through her life in Greenfield, she was Chairman of the Hancock County United Way, Director of the Greenfield Chamber of Commerce, President of Greenfield Revitalization, Inc., Director of the Hancock County Arts Council, and President of the Indiana Bank Marketing Association. After retirement, she trained “Reggie”, her giant Schnoodle, as a therapy dog and visited churches, rehabilitation centers, and hospitals as a part of Pet Partners® Therapy Animal Program. She is survived by her loving husband of 58 years, Herb; son, Scott Brown of Galesburg, Michigan; sister, Dorothy (Lester) Harris of Washington D.C.; and three grandchildren; Travis, Mikayla, and Mariah Brown. Judy was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Ingram Lester, and her sister Cora Dee Hooks. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Monday, December 30, 2013 at Greenfield Christian Church at 11:00 a.m. with calling two hours prior to the service. Pastor Frank Everett will be officiating. Arrangements are being handled by Erlewein Mortuary & Crematory in Greenfield. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Greenfield Christian Church Youth Program, 23 N East St., Greenfield, IN 46140; or Pet Partners®, 875 124th Ave NE #101 Bellevue, WA 98005-2531 (www.petpartners.org).
