FORTVILLE – James R. Densmore, age 81, of Fortville, passed away Monday, April 20, 2015 at Community Heart and Vascular Hospital. He was born on June 11, 1933 in Brownstown, PA as the son of John H. and Wilma (Snively) Densmore. He graduated from Powhatan Point High School in 1951. James retired from the U.S. Navy as a Chief Petty Officer. He served during the Korean and Vietnam Wars from 1951 until 1971. James was awarded a commendation for outstanding achievement from the Secretary of the U.S. Navy for his technical competence and leadership as Leading Damage Controlman on the U.S.S. Picking. He married Anna Sue (Ogletree) on December 6, 1979 in Indianapolis. He worked as a maintenance mechanic for many years at RCA and IUPUI. Mr. Densmore attended Eden United Methodist Church and was a member at Powhatan United Methodist Church. He enjoyed golfing and loved to travel. James is survived by his loving wife, Anna Sue Densmore of Fortville; son, Jim Densmore of Carmel; daughter, Sarah Densmore of Carmel; step-sons, Rick Mullins of Louisville, KY and Charles Wands of Orange County, CA; step-daughter, Robyn Mullins of Indianapolis; four grandchildren, Ellen, Meghan, Jesse, and Katelyn; and sister, Sarah Knight of Powhatan Point, OH. He was preceded in death by his parents, John H. and Wilma (Snively) Densmore; brother, Terry Snively; and sister, Maxine Makrus. Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 23, 2015, from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Erlewein Mortuary & Crematory, 1484 W. US Hwy. 40, Greenfield, IN 46140. A funeral service will take place immediately following the visitation at 7:00 p.m. Pastor David Crittenden will be officiating. Burial will take place at a later date at Indiana Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Madison, IN.
