George “Curt” Curtis Anderson

GREENFIELD – George “Curt” Curtis Anderson, 100 years and 4 months, passed away on Thursday, April 23, 2015 at Hancock Regional Hospital in the Hospice Unit surrounded by his family. Curt was the sixth of twelve children born to Aaron and Emily (Wright) Anderson. He was born at home on December 2, 1914 in McRoberts, KY. At the age of 20, he married Betty Ann Webb, the “love of his life” in 1934. He worked as an underground coal miner for 28 years in Haymond, KY where he was instrumental in the organization and implementation of the United Mine Workers Union. His efforts resulted in the improvement in safety, better working conditions and wages for all coal miners. In 1958, he moved his children to Greenfield, Indiana, where he was employed by Mechanical Trades Heating and Air for ten years before retiring. Curt enjoyed working in his yard, visiting with family and staying active by walking daily throughout the years in Greenfield Park, Pennsy Trail, and Wal-Mart. He was a member of the Bethel Baptist Church in Greenfield. Curt is survived by one sister, Ederie Hollon 89 of Shepherdsville, KY; five children, Emma (Larry) Cole of Greenfield, Wilma (Bill) Baker of Pendleton, Hershel Anderson of Greenfield, Mabelene (Winston) Hammons of Greenfield, and Carlos Anderson of Greenfield; daughter-in-law, Nancy Anderson of Canton, OH; 21 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren; 30 great-great grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Ann (Webb) Anderson in 1953; his son, Brose Anderson; grandson, Junior Anderson; 2 sisters and 8 brothers. Visitation will be held on Monday, April 27, 2015, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Erlewein Mortuary & Crematory, 1484 W. US Hwy. 40, Greenfield, IN 46140. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, April 28, 2015, at 11:00 a.m. at Bethel Baptist Church, 1610 S. State Street, Greenfield, IN 46140. Dr. Randall Parker will be officiating. Burial will follow at Park Cemetery in Greenfield. Memorial contributions may be sent directly to Hancock Regional Foundation, Attn: Hospice, 801 N.
