GREENFIELD – Jean (Baty) Hatcher Smith, age 81, of Greenfield, passed away Thursday, November 26, 2015 at Hancock Regional Hospital. She was born on March 2, 1934 in Franklin County Alabama as the daughter of Ranzy and Verdie Baty. Jean worked for Hancock Regional Hospital as a CNA for over 30 years before retiring. She was a member of Greenfield Church of God. She is survived by her husband, Delmas Smothers; sisters, Normalee George, Margie Cochran; brother, Lou Baty; children, Stanley (Kathy) Hatcher, Carlton Hatcher, Glenn Hatcher, Teresa Hatcher; daughter-in-law, Connie Hatcher; step-children, David (Tammi) Smith, Jeannie Molique, Robi (Denny) Kelley, Kathy (Don) Scott, Greg (Joni) Smothers; grandchildren, Amy, Missy, Jerry Jr., Daniel, Haley, Heather, Lacey, Carman, Natalie, Zachery; eight step-grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and one great great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her grandson, Bruce Alen Hatcher; parents, Ranzy and Verdie Baty; sons, Jerry and Kim Hatcher; brothers, Albert, Kenneth, Tommy, Denver, and Bobby Baty; sisters, Jan Mitchell, Carolyn Stidham, Susie Ball; and first two husbands, Ross Hatcher and John Smith. Visitation will be held on Sunday, November 29, 2015, from 2:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at Erlewein Mortuary in Greenfield. A funeral service will be held on Monday, November 30, 2015, at 11:00 a.m. at the Greenfield Church of God, 1561 East Main Street, Greenfield, IN 46140. Ira Scott will be officiating. Burial will follow at Park Cemetery in Greenfield. Memorial contributions may be sent directly to American Cancer Society, 5635 W 96th St #100, Indianapolis, IN 46278.
